Jewellery with your child's fingerprint carries something only your child has: the fine lines of their fingertip. At LIINI®, you take your baby's or toddler's print yourself at home, and we laser it onto a necklace or a signet ring. How the fingerprint gets onto your jewellery

First, choose a necklace or a ring and place your order. We then send you the fingerprint kit by post, free of charge. Inside, you'll find non-toxic print strips, a fingerprint card with a QR code, step-by-step instructions and an actual-size ring sizer. You don't need an appointment: the print is taken at home, at your own pace.

Your child already has fingerprints at birth. How clearly the lines show up in the print, however, varies from child to child. That's why we recommend taking the print from 6 months. If it isn't clear enough yet, simply wait, because your order stays valid indefinitely. Taking the print doesn't hurt and is easiest while your baby is asleep.

For the engraving, all we need is a photo of the card. You upload it via the QR code, together with your ring size if you've chosen a ring. We prepare the print digitally, laser it 1:1 and adapt it to the size of the pendant or ring. Your piece arrives in a jewellery box, insured and tracked.

These tips will help you get a sharp photo:

• Set your smartphone camera to the highest resolution.
• Lay the card flat rather than holding it in your hand.
• Take the photo straight down from above, parallel to the card.
• Alternatively, you can scan the card.

Fingerprint necklaces

On the fingerprint necklace, the print sits on a round pendant 16 mm in diameter. You can choose between two chain styles: Bobble is a fine ball chain, while Anchor has fine anchor links. For the engraving style, you can choose Single, Duo or Heart. The necklace is 45 cm long and can be adjusted by 5 cm. It's available for one child or for two. Fingerprint rings

The LIINI® fingerprint ring is a signet ring: your child's print sits on the face of the ring. It comes in three sizes, with an inner diameter of 16.5 mm, 17.3 mm or 18.1 mm. With the ring sizer from the kit, you can find the right size at your leisure before you upload the photo. You'll find the colours and the size chart under fingerprint rings.

Materials and care

Necklaces and rings are available in 925 silver as well as gold and rose gold. Gold and rose gold are 18-carat gold plating on 925 silver, so they're fashion jewellery rather than solid gold. Silver and gold plating react to sweat and cosmetics: over time, the jewellery may oxidise and discolour. Here's how to keep it looking beautiful for longer:

• Take your jewellery off before sport and before showering. Shampoo and shower gel contain substances that damage it.
• Let cream and lotion soak in completely before you put it on. The alcohol in perfume attacks jewellery.
• Protect it from strong sunlight and never wear it when swimming in salt water.
• Clean it with lukewarm water and ordinary soap, without alcohol-based cleaning products. Dry it with a fine microfibre cloth, pressing very lightly.
• Keep it in the box it came in.

Fingerprint jewellery as a gift: birth, Mother's Day, christening

A necklace or ring with her own child's print is a personal gift for a new mum. It works even when the baby is still very small: because the order stays valid indefinitely, the print can follow later, once the lines are clearly visible. For Mother's Day or a christening, it's best to allow some extra time, as the kit, print, engraving and delivery all take a while.
