A baby cradle with a stand gives your baby their own cosy spot close to you during the day. The LIINI® cradle is made up of a hand-crocheted cotton Moses basket and a stand made of poplar and birch wood, on which you can gently rock your baby. It's designed for daytime rest and for taking with you, not as a permanent place to sleep at night.

Baby cradle, Moses basket or bassinet?

The three terms are often used interchangeably. Usually, these are the differences people mean:

  • Moses basket: a light woven or crocheted basket with a mattress. You carry it to wherever you happen to be.
  • Cradle: a sleeping surface on a stand that can be gently rocked back and forth.
  • Bassinet: a sleeping basket on a stand with wheels that you push from room to room. It often has a hood or a canopy.

The LIINI® cradle combines the first two. The hand-crocheted basket sits on a wooden stand on which you rock it gently. For naps at home, it stays on the stand; for a visit or an afternoon in the garden, you simply take the basket. A model on wheels, on the other hand, is easier to push around the house. Which option suits you better depends on your space and your daily routine.

If you'd rather keep your baby close to your body when you're out and about, a baby carrier from birth is the natural complement to the cradle.

Safe sleep in the cradle

The LIINI® cradle meets DIN EN 1466:2023, the European standard for carry cots. It requires stability, meaning the cradle must not tip over even when it's moving, as well as ventilation, protection against suffocation and a clearly marked maximum load. For this cradle, that's 9 kg.

However, the standard doesn't replace the general rules for safe baby sleep:

  • On their back: Put your baby down to sleep on their back.
  • Flat and clear: a flat, firm mattress, with no pillows, loose blankets, soft toys or cot bumpers in the basket. Instead of a blanket, use a baby sleeping bag in the right size.
  • Not too warm: Don't dress your baby too warmly, and don't put the cradle right next to a radiator or in direct sunlight.
  • Stable footing: Only place the basket on the stand or on the floor, never on a raised surface such as a table.
  • Move on in time: As soon as your baby weighs 9 kg or can sit up, kneel or pull themselves up, they need a different place to sleep.
  • A cot at night: The cradle isn't intended as a permanent place to sleep at night. At night, your baby belongs in a cot or bedside crib designed for that purpose.

From when and until when can I use the cradle?

The LIINI® cradle is designed for babies from birth. The maximum load is 9 kg, and your baby must not weigh more than that. Whatever the weight, as soon as your baby can sit up, kneel or pull themselves up, it's time for a cot. So what matters is your baby's weight and development, not a fixed number of months.

Does the cradle meet a safety standard?

Yes. The LIINI® cradle meets DIN EN 1466:2023, the European standard for carry cots. The standard requires stability even when in motion, adequate ventilation, protection against suffocation and a clearly marked maximum load. For this cradle, that's 9 kg.

Can I carry the Moses basket?

Yes. The LIINI® cradle is built to the standard for carry cots and is designed for daytime rest and for taking with you. That way, your baby can lie in their familiar basket in the living room, in the garden or at their grandparents'. Carry the basket steadily and keep it level, and only put it down on the floor or on the stand, never on a table or any other raised surface.

How do I clean the basket and mattress?

What's the difference between a baby cradle and a bassinet?
